USARA National Qualifier: 5th running of the LIONHEART 24+ hour adventure race. 

This race is transitional/unsupported & will be raced in a Rogaine format. The race will start/finish & transition at Wilderness Voyageurs. This is our 3rd year using this race format & the feedback has been very posotive. This format allows for many different strategies/route selections.

Solo's, 2 person, 3 person & 4 person teams will race 85 to 90 miles across the beautiful & rugged Laurel Mountains of south western Pennsylvania.

  • 40-50 miles of mountain biking on single track, quad trails, rail trails & back roads. 

  • 25-30 miles of trekking & orienteering

  • 9-15 miles of kayaking on the Casselman and, or, the Middle Yough river

  • 150' rappel off of the Historic railroad tressel (optional points)

  • 150 meter river swim on flat water

 

"The winning 3 person coed team qualifies for the USARA National Championship in November & will receive $400.00 toward there entry fee to USARA Nationals from American Adventure Sports, as well as USARA GOLITE race jackets, from USARA & GOLITE. The 2nd & 3rd place coed, 3 person teams, also qualify for USARA Nationals" 

"Zanfel will be providing an additional $100.00 sponsorship towards the winning 3 person coed teams entry fee for the USARA National Championship".

solo - $185.00
2 pers - $350.00
3 pers - $525.00 (USARA National Qualifier)
4 pers - $700.00

*Awards given to the top 3 teams in each category.
*Must be 3 teams in a category to be competitive.

Athletes will receive technical wear / bike jersey's, color maps, clue sheets & passports, quality boats, double bladed paddles & PFD's.

*Athletes can use their own paddles & PFD's but they are responsible to transport them to & from transition.

 

LIONHEART SCHEDULE
  • Check-in Friday night from:1900-2100
  • Rappel gear inspect & skills test.
  • Receive color topo map/clue sheet/CP Punch Card
  • Transpose (some) CP's.
  • Check-in Saturday morning: 0700-0730
  • Pre-Race Briefing: 0800
  • Race Start: 0900

 

  • Race Cut-Off Time: Sunday-1000
  • Awards Ceremony: Sunday-1030
Directions:
From Philadelphia & Wahington D.C
Take the Pennsylvania Turnpike (76) west to exit 10 at Somerset
Follow Hwy 281 south to Hwy 653
Follow 653 west to Normalville
At Normalville take 381 south to the town of Ohiopyle

From Pittsburgh
Take the Pennsylvania Turnpike (76) east to exit 9 at Donegal
Take Hwy 381 south to Ohiopyle
