As
reported in the Central Penn Business Journal:
”Doug Crytzer will take you into the woods and out of your
comfort zone. In the process, you'll learn something about the
environment and something about yourself.”
That is the mission of American Adventure Sports, LLC Doug
Crytzer's business!
Doug grew up on a farm in western Pennsylvania. Riding horses
by the time he was 5-years old, he credits his parents, Robert
and Colleen, for allowing him to explore and experience the
wilderness from a very young age. By the time he was 12-years
old he had several technical climbs and cave explorations under
his belt. Following high school he tried his hand as a
professional cowboy.
Doug, who went on to become an Army paratrooper with the
82nd
Airborne and compete on American Gladiators during its first
incarnation, is a life-long adventurer.
He is now the father of
two children – Scott, who is a whitewater rafting guide,
currently serving in the Army in Iraq, and Ashley, who is an
avid athlete and a freshman in college. The whole family surfs,
kayaks, snowboards, and enjoys nature together.
A professional adventure racer and veteran of more than 70
races, Doug founded American Adventure Sports, LLC. He now
designs and produces some of the most challenging races in the
country, as well as customized corporate adventure,
team-building and wellness packages.
Doug
has a theory about adventure racers:
"These are the toughest athletes I've ever met, period," Crytzer
said. "I've seen the cuts, the bruises, the breaks. The only difference
is that they don't run to the sidelines and suck oxygen or see a
trainer. They pull out a first-aid kit, patch each other up and keep
moving. It's really a cutting-edge sport, and I do think it will
continue to grow."
