- Everyone will hit a high and a low. Be man/woman enough to admit each.
- HAVE FUN! Make sure you take time to enjoy the experience.
- Save the blue rubber bands off of your produce, they’re great for securing gear to your pack or bike.
- If one teammate has an hourly alarm on their watch, set a 1-hour or 90-minute alarm as a reminder to hydrate.
- Duct tape food to your bike frame for easy access while riding.
- Save used tape, it can be used to patch tires, repair shoes, fix equipment.
- Pack food in 6- or 8-hour baggies with the appropriate amount of food for those times.
- Don’t try new food items or supplements during a race. Confirm that they work for you during training.
- Try not to duplicate team gear. You only need one bike repair tool for a team.
- Plan out who on your team is carrying what. Avoiding excess or duplicate items can save a lot of extra weight. Less weight means moving faster.
- Always carry cash. You never know where you may end up.
- Research the terrain of a race before you get there. Mytopo.com is a great resource for this.
- Garbage bags are not waterproof.
- At night, good lights are your best friend. Invest in good bike lights and headlamps.
- Never follow a hippie to a second location.
