American Adventure Sports was founded by Doug Crytzer in Indiana. After racing professionally with Fogdog Sports, and competing in hundreds of Adventure Races, Doug produced his first Adventure Race as a charity event to benefit a local Boy Scout Troop. Doug quickly fell in love with the creativity, challenge, and excitement involved with race production. American Adventure Sports was created with the mission of sharing the great sport of Adventure Racing with as many people as possible.
Since its conception in 1997, American Adventure Sports has expanded to offer many other opportunities to share our passion for nature and activity, including a children’s camp series, a variety of clinics, academies and corporate events that have given thousands of individuals the chance to learn, grow, and improve their lives.
In 2009, American Adventure Sports opened a retail location in Indiana, which carries outdoor and adventure gear. 2010 brought the launch of a fully functioning in-house video production branch for the company, with the goal of exposing the world to the thrill of adventure sports. American Adventure Sports began a partnership with the Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 2011, providing the university with some of the most sought after internship programs in various departments.
We approach the future with a “sky’s the limit” mentality. A second retail location is scheduled to open in the spring of 2012 in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, which will carry mountain bikes, road bikes, skis, snowboards and other high-end adventure items. As its growth continues, AAS will be working to expand and improve the company’s programming and infrastructure.
Despite the incredible growth AAS has seen in the past few years, we remain loyal to our initial mission and values while striving to encourage fitness, improving quality of life and enjoying all that the great outdoors has to offer, all while taking care of the planet.
